five simple things #1
I’ve never been fond of Sunday evenings. As a kid, I would cry when my aunt, uncle and cousin would leave our house after family dinner. The transition meant that the carefree weekend was over and the routine of the week was beginning again. I may not cry (okay…maybe I have once or twice) now as an adult but Sunday evenings have not gotten that much easier. I often find myself calling Fox to chat about things to look forward to as I prepare for the week ahead by making lunches and finishing laundry or scrolling through Instagram to momentarily forget that I will be waking up before the sun rises for work. I am hoping to start a weekly series of sharing 5 simple things to provide an easier transition from the weekend to the work week. I hope that you enjoy!
1. On New Year’s Eve, Fox, Badger and I watched Brittany Runs A Marathon on Amazon Prime. It was both funny and inspirational. So far, we already completed week one of Couch to 5k!
2. One way that I combated the Sunday Scaries in medical school was to declare Self Care Sundays. I have found myself gravitating back to that routine. This morning I used my favorite detoxifying shampoo and will plan to do a face mask before bed.
3. Baking may be one of my favorite hobbies. I made another batch of homemade granola since Fox and Mama Bear were requesting refills for their mason jars. I adapt the recipe from Seriously Delish by Jessica Merchant. I get a lot of inspiration from her cookbooks and website.
4. A couple of years ago, I started washing my makeup brushes on a more regular basis (once a month-ish). While Fox was getting ready on Saturday, I washed my brushes. It is going to feel so lovely putting on make up Monday morning! I use a product from Swirl + Sparkle because it is easy but I am sure there are DIY alternatives.
5. You’ll see over time that I have a slight obsession with candles. I currently have a scene very similar to this as I am typing up this post. Lightning a candle creates a cozy ambiance. I pretty much exclusively purchase Candelles.
Before signing off to savor the remainder of the weekend:
