five simple things #15
Happy Easter! Growing up my aunt, who we call Elmo, and uncle hosted the best egg hunt. Fox, my older cousin and I would search for our individual colored eggs and then race to find the special eggs. Once we collected our eggs, we exchanged the contents of each egg at the Easter Store. We entered the store separately, one egg at a time. Taking in all of the sections- clothes, books, toys, and treats was all so exciting! I have such fond memories from these hunts and can still feel the glee in my heart. It is carrying me through this current season. I hope that despite the unprecedented circumstances, you can make a new memory.
1. Joy by Bastille. This song came up while I was listening to Spotify and the uplifting beat and lyrics boosted my mood. I saved it to my running playlist and will likely be listening to this on repeat.
2. Not wasting a drop. I am not quite sure why I took immense pride in getting every ounce of toothpaste from my tube. Maybe it is because of homesteading without the dirt or maybe because going to the store to get another tube is no longer such an easy convenience. I’ll admit that I was not always dedicated to getting the last drops but I learned from the best- Badger. He is a master at maximizing his use of products.
3. Breakfast in bed. I am fortunate that I am able to be doing my job from home. Badger still goes in daily. However, two days a week he has lectures first thing in the morning. One day I decided to bring him breakfast in bed because I could. It was a moment entirely possible because of the stay at home order and one that I won’t forget.
4. Pastel hydrangeas. Badger went grocery shopping solo this week. Don’t worry- I sent him with a detailed list. In addition to getting everything on the list, he showed up with surprise flowers. His reasoning- “You are home all day. You will enjoy them!”
5. Poker. For the past two nights, Badger and I have played poker. I am using the opportunity to brush up on my skills since luck has not always been on my side. The first time that I played was with Badger’s family a few years ago. I surprisingly won, earning the name of Honey Badger. I am still trying to keep all of the rules straight but I have a feeling that I’ll have plenty of time.
